It's my birthday and I'll stamp if I want to!!!!!

What a wonderful way to be woken this morning - huuuuuuggggggeeeeee cuddles from my three babies :D

Not to mention PRESENTS!!!

Of course I got some of the Stampin' Up! variety - from the main catty: sassy stems, pure and simple alphabet numbers, and springtime stems. From the mini: scribble this and bundle of joy.

I also got a few other things, which I was surprised about as I was only expecting the craft!

I am heading out to lunch with my folks today, so will be off and about, but will post again later with a new technique. Regulars will notice MM missing, it is for good reason, I wanted to hold off a day and use one of my new stamp sets lol

I have more cards to post, so will upload those later too!!

I'm a Rockin' Girl Blogger!!

How excitment!! I have been tagged by Sarah - a rockin' girl blogger herself, and the inspiration for many of my impulse stamp set purchases. I blame her for bodacious (robyn, you should check her cards out!) among other things.
So, the deal is that I tag five other Rockin' Girl Bloggers.
Have to dash out the door to take Jack to school, so I'll make the list when I get back :)

Technique Tuesday (on a Sunday!) - Stampin' Around

There are a few ways you can ink up a stampin' around wheel. Below I show you two of the most common methods used.

One: Using an ink cartridge

1) Assemble your tools - wheel, handle, and ink cartridge.

2) slot cartidge into handle

3) take lid off cartridge

4) push cartridge down further into handle until it 'snaps' in

5) click wheel into handle

6) push cartridge up so that it comes into contact with wheel

7) wheel onto scratch paper to ink up wheel

8) start just off the cardstock. This ensures even coverage from edge to edge. When you get to the other side you will keep rolling just off the other side. Ensure you have scratch paper that is larger than your cardstock or you will wheel your table cloth. Been there. Done that.

9) wheel onto your cardstock. You can wheel in an upwards motion as pictured, or downwards. DO NOT push and pull, just one or the other. Experiment with whichever motion suits you better. I am a pusher :)

10) To ensure you wheel in a straight line, you can use our wheel guide it is VERY useful.

Two: Using an inkpad
1) Ink up your wheel by running it over your inkpad several times. SU! inkpads are especially great for this as they are larger than many other inkpads and can easily accomodate a large wheel (as pictured)

2) As per instructions given above, wheel onto your cardstock

3) Wheeled image (this is my new wheel - I love it!)

Applications for Stampin' Around:

- create backgrounds on cards and scrapbook pages
- create borders to frame photographs on scrapbooking pages
- create multi-coloured images by colouring direct to wheel rubber with markers or crayons
- use wheel to create wrapping paper that co-ordinates with your handstamped card

This list is not exhaustive, just a sample of what you can achieve.

Check out the IB&C for matching wheels and stamp sets.

TT delay

Hi all,

I have finally got the kids settled, taken friend to airport, and sat down to photograph technique tuesday. Well, the batteries in my camera have died, so it will have to wait until after I go to the shops in the morning. The good news is that I am kid free tomorrow, so will have lots of time to do it, but the bad news is you'll have to wait til then!

I can tell you it is going to be a Stampin' Around tutorial. Stay tuned!

We are family!

Manic Monday went out the window today to make room for this canvas clock that I made for our home. They are my new favourite thing right now, this is the second one I have done.

I will get MM up later tonight or tomorrow when I can snatch an hour to get it done. In the meantime, here is a snapshot of my family :)

In case you can't read it, the journaling says:

It is during the quiet moments that we cherish what we share as a family. We take time to be silly together, and enjoy life's simple pleasures. In this we find happiness.

Some housekeeping

Okay, I haven't posted out anything for a week or two, so I have sat down to do the big preparation of things to post, but I am not sure I have a complete list!

I have:

Mat Pack to Alex

Tech booklet and OSW to Carole

OSW to Wilma and lesley

Card Candy to Robyn

If I have forgotten you, and you were supposed to receive something from me and haven't, PLEASE let me know. Either reply here, or email me admin@cassandragrambau.com.au I had lists, but I can't find them (though I'm sure they'll turn up as soon as I don't need them!!) I haven't intentionally forgotten anyone, so please feel free to give me a not so gentle reminder.

Cass

Hellooo!!

What a busy time! No crafting here unfortunately, but lots of running around after children. The girls had an extra day at preschool today as I had to work, so they are extra tired. They are determined to stay up tonight and watch Friday night games, but I don't like their chances! Yes, I am afraid to say we watch Big Brother. I know it's tragic, but the kids love the games!

I have come up with this trick to get my kids to eat bananas. They don't eat a wide variety of fruit, and woke up one day and decided bananas (try typing that quickly a few times!)were off the menu, so I started buying the ones that have been dipped in red wax (does anyone know why they are that way?) and telling them they would give them super powers. They all eat at least one a day now, and have not yet cottoned on that they are not faster, or able to fly. I wonder how long til they work it out lol

I am off to do some housework, and maybe, just maybe, if the planets all align, I will create something to show you over the weekend!

Keep those emails coming for my birthday card comp - I am SO excited!! My mailbox has been very empty recently, and, whilst I am happy to not be getting any bills,I would love for it to be full of bright happy cards :)

Check this out!

Lesley, who is fast becoming a firm friend and a GREAT customer (it is possible you are keeping me in business lol) has created a blog all of her own.

She has made a card which I think is cute, it uses the cuttlebug (I think?!) for texture, which suits the stamp set perfectly.

Anyway, I told her I'd give her a shout out, so here it is!

Win a set of watercolour wonder crayons!!

We are more than half way through the month, and I feel like giving something away.

The competition is thus:

Mail me a birthday card (I love getting cards!!)

Everyone who does will go in the draw to win a set of the Watercolour Wonder Crayons (rrp $38.95)

The card can be any size, shape, or colour you like. It can be as simple or elaborate as you like.

You do NOT have to use all SU! products, what is the fun in entering a competition if you have to buy something to get in it?

This comp is open internationally, I want to see how far these things will come from! Also, by sending in your card, you are agreeing that I can post it here on my blog, or in my reader's gallery. You of course will get all credit as the creator.

You have to be in it to win it, so if you want a chance to WIN, then email me for my address, pop a work of art in the mail, and cross your fingers!

It's still not my birthday...

but I have been birthday shopping already lol

My most wonderful fabulous husband decided he will feed my habit for my birthday this year, so I chose two sets from the new mini catalogue (they are divine - wait til you see them!). Of course, I couldn't stop there, and I also chose three sets from the IB&C. I hope he isn't reading this!! With discount it is only about $40ish more than I told him I would spend, one of the sets was free (gotta love hostess benefits!!). Is that justification enough? What about - it's almost my birthday and I'll shop if I want to!! I have three children, so that is one from each of them, one from him, and one from myself - a girl has to spoil herself!!

For anyone with a birthday coming up, why not point your loved ones in this direction and ask not so subtly for a gift voucher of your own?

More tomorrow!

Technique Tuesday - how to create a mini album

1) Gather the items and tools needed to create your album

2) Cut a piece of cardstock 5.5" x 12". This will be your folding template.

3) Lay your folding template in teh centre of a pice of 12x12 patterned paper.
4) Fold two sides of the paper over your template. Repeat with two more sheets of paper. Glue or tape (I used SNAIL) flaps closed to form a tube. These will form the pocket pages for your album.

5) Fold each paper tube in half.

6) Nest them inside each other.

7) Open album and punch two holes through the spine of all layers at once.

8) Thread ribbon through holes and tie bow in front.

9) Cut a strip of patterned paper to 2" x 12" and thread it under the ribbon. Glue or tape in place.
10) Cut another strip that is 1" x 12". Cut the strip in half to form a 1" x 6" strip. Score each strip and fold it in half lengthways to form a 1/2" x 6" piece.
11) Glue/tape each piece over open end of front and back covers.
12) Add journalling tags by cutting 4" x 6" pieces of cardstock, and rounding or squaring off the corners. Tie a piece of ribbon through a punched hole at the top.
The finished product!!
All items (except for the hole punch) pictured are Stampin' Up! products and are available through me if you are in Australia, or your local SU! demo if you are an international visitor.
The technique or 'how to' to make this album is not originally my own idea or design, however I do not know where it originated from.
All images are copyright to Stampin' Up!, all artwork and photography is by me :)

The case for CASEing

In the stamping world, CASEing someone's work is a true compliment. Depending on who you talk to, CASE will mean Copy And Share Everything, Copy And Share with Everyone, Copy and Steal Everything, or Copy and Steal from Everyone - you choose which best suits you ;)
I often get asked where I get the ideas or inspiration for my cards, and whilst I do design much of my own work, I have been known to CASE other people's work frequently. Particularly when I am in a rush, in a rut, or when I first started stamping. There is no shame in copying and CASEing, it is encouraged, so if you see something you like, copy it and make it your own. Remember to acknowledge where you sourced it from if you are passing on the idea wherever possible.

One stamper in particular who can't set a foot wrong is Marelle. I often CASE her work, and this card is no exception!
You can see the original here
and this is my copy:

One of my blog readers, Robyn, also frequents Marelle's blog, and recently sent me this RAK:

Look familiar at all? It is based on Marelle's famous no-cutting card

So, next time you are in a rut or a rush, or see something you really like, copy it to your heart's content!

My craft space

I thought some of you might be interested in where most of my creating takes place. I have just spent 2 hours (I am not kidding!) sorting and storing all of my stuff, so I thought I had better get a pic before I messed it up again!

My bookshelf *used* to store books. Then I got overrun with craft supplies. Now my books are in the garage. They'll make their way out one day, but in the meantime, this is where I store my stamp sets (last count was 39 sets. Considering there are 200 off sets in the catalogue, and the mini is about to start, I think I had better get shopping! My birthday is coming up....) I se the rest of the shelves for bits and bobs - spare catalogues, business resources, heat gun, tool kit...and whatever else you can see in the pic!

Here is my desk. I bought it off ebay for $5. Seriously. The black/clear drawers hold my inkpads, my non SU! stamps, my punches, my card and paper scraps (so I can in theory use them one day!), my pastels, my markers, and anything else I can fit in there. I also have a ribbon keeper on top of the drawers with all my SU! ribbons in them. Then I have the magazine holder which houses all sorts of papers and magazines, my white boxes which also hide a multitude of sins (like my eyelets and brads, extra ribbons, ink refills etc). My top two desk drawers have the majority of my tools - wheel guide, stampin' around handles, glues, SNAILs, staplers, stamp-a-ma-jig and so on. Some of my tools are in a pen holder on my desk as I use them virtually every time I create something. The bottom desk drawer is full of suspended files that hold my cardstock. I have a folder for every colour available. I can only fit the four colour families in there, so the orange container you can see under my desk houses the neutrals and in colour stock. Lastly, you can see some cards strung up on the wall. These are some of the cards I have received in recent times, some from my lovely blog readers, some from my kids, and some from my friends. I am a lucky girl!

If you feel inspired to send me a pic of your craft area, email me a pic and I will post it here (with your permission of course!)

Now my area is all nice and clean I want to create! We have friends coming to visit, so it won't happen today, but at least I know I am good to go tomorrow when Manic Monday makes it's first appearance in a looong time!

Last week's giveaway will go out tomorrow too, I have had a bit of a tumultuous week, so haven't done any organising of much at all!

Almost forgot - MINI CATALOGUE TIME!!!

If anyone would like to receive a FREE copy of the new Mini Catalogue, email me admin@cassandragrambau.com.au and I will send one out to you. Catalogues are out now, and ordering begins for customers on 1st August (if you were a demonstrator you would have your new stamps already!!)

This offer is open to Australian residents only.

I love having my blog back - I've missed you all!

A quick note...

HI everyone,

I have transferred some of the techniques and monday's across. That will probably be all that will come across from the old blog, I can't put things into categories, so you can scroll through the posts, or do a search for your favourite category.

If there is a technique you would like to see, feel free to reply here and suggest one. Special Sunday will be posted here, and all the regular postings will be back next week - Manic Monday, Technique Tuesday, and product of the week. If you haven't signed up for my newsletter yet, visit my contact page to do so. Whilst my blog has been down all info, tips and competitions have gone out via my newsletter - if you aren't subscribed you have been missing out!

Regular readers of my old blog will be pleased to note I can now post pics in my post :D This will cut down on alot of admin time for me, and make the blog more user friendly. I'll be tweaking some things over the weekend, some of the links might not work for you right now, but will do so once I have had time to go through them all. Remember to bookmark the new page, as the address has changed slightly.

Until next time,

Happy Stampin'!

Technique Tuesday - how to create a rolled back word window

1) Measure stamp image and, using a scalpel, cut a rough freehand rectangle approximately 5mm smaller than the measured stamp image.

2) Take out centre and make diagonal cuts in each corner approximately 5mm long.

3) Roll back edges of cardstock, one at a time. Roll them until the fibres in the cardstock start to break down. Do this until you achieve the look you are after.

Picture: All sides rolled back

4) Lay finished piece onto bottom layer of cardstock. You can use the same shade or a different colour to achieve a contrast (see above and below)

5) Stamp image directly onto bottom later using top layer as a guide. If you are not comfortable doing it this way you can take a lead pencil and trace lightly around the inside of the top layer, then remove top layer and stamp image (you can use the stamp-a-ma-jig to perfectly line it up). Rub out pencil and adhere top layer.
You're done!

Technique Tuesday - How to make a notebook

1) Take a piece of cardstock and cut it down to 14cmx19cm.

2) Score card along 19cm sude at 9, 10 and 11cm

3) Fold scored lines thus: 9cm valley fold, 10cm mountain fold, 11cm valley fold

4) Lay out flat with 14cm side on top and mark along valley folds at 3 1/2 and 10 1/2cm and make vertical cuts from valley to valley using a scalpel.

5) Fold cardstock in half along mountain fold and push out top and bottom sections creating a valley fold in the middle section. This will become the section for the pen (refer to completed item picture below to see what I am on about!)

6) Stamp and decorate front as you wish. Do not adhere main image to front as yet, you will do that in step 8.

You can't really see it in the photo, but I have used versamark to create a watermark background using one of our background fillers, and then used a white gel pen to create centres of the flowers.

7) Using super sticky strip (this stuff is MAGIC!) attach a small notebook approximately 7 1/2 x 12 1/2 cm to inner RHS

8) Refering to photo two above, attach a piece of ribbon, approximately 40cm long around centre of notebook. This will be used to tie it closed. Attach image over ribbon (see below)

9) Add pen, and tie closed.

These notebooks make a great gift for someone you are thinking about, or for your child's teacher at end of year. You can change the stamp styles and cardstock colour to suit the occasion.

Technique Tuesday - Emboss Resist and Faux Metal

Following from last week's tutorial on basic stamping and embossing, I thought I would demonstrate a couple of other effects you can achieve using embossing - emboss resist and making faux metal embellishments.

Stamped and powdered
Embossed
1) Using a clear ink (I use versamark) and clear embossing powder stamp and then emboss your stamp of choice. I have used a large flower stamp.

2) Apply a sponge (not sure what you would call this particular sponge, but it is in the catalogue if you want to see it or order it!) directly to an inkpad (SU! inkpads are great for this as they have a larger than usual surface area). Think of the tap-a-tap-a motion that we learnt last week - it works just as well on sponges ;)

3) Apply sponge directly to embossed card. Dab or drag the sponge across the card, depending on what effect you want. I wanted a sponged look, so I dabbed.

Half done
All done

4) Wipe excess ink off embossed images using a tissue. I don't have a picture of me doing this as I completely forgot to take one, so you will have to imagine it. I do however have a picture of the finished product, which you can see above. Note how the clear images are vibrant as opposed to dull if you forget to wipe them. Also, if you forget to wipe them then you will have excess ink which will wipe off on every surface and spread itself around until you have been overrun by red ink. It's true.

You can do lots of things with the finished product. Here I cut it down and applied it to a card front. Pretty effective, don't you think? All SU! products mix and match, so I was able to perfectly match my ink (real red) with my cardstock (wait for it...wait for it...real red. Original, huh?)

Faux metal

Now, before I go any further I think you should know my attempt at doing this was disastrous!! I have the know how, but I think I need to work on the knack. I will give you all the instructions and the pics to go with it, but the final image isn't quite what I hoped for. You really need a reverse image to get the full impact of faux metal, and as yet I don't have a set that really has one. Guess what will be in my next order??

1) Apply inkpad (I used Top Boss from the embossing kit discussed last week) directly to card stock and then apply embossing powder to ink. Heat set. I have not included a pic of this as my 4yo is at preschool and couldn't take it for me, so you will just have to refer to last week's picture.

2) Repeat this 3 or so times. I think I ended up doing it 4 times trying to repair the damage I had done!!

3) Once you have done the final layer press the stamp of your choice down onto the embossed surface (whilst it is still warm). Allow to harden and you *should* have your image.

4) Cut around it, either square or following shape, whatever you like, and there you have it! Once cooled it will be hard.
When I get a better set I will redo this tutorial, but for now that will give you the general idea.

Just another Manic Monday...

Think S.I.P - Stamps, Ink and Paper. Choose a stamp set, an A4 pack of cardstock from your favourite colour family, one or more inkpads and some optional embellishments.
This week I have 'cheated' as I was in a hurry. I used a pack of scrapbooking papers and a stamp set. I have HEAPS of papers leftover, which means these cards are not only quick to put together, but cost effective too.

I have chosen:
Stamp set - All-Year Cheer II
Cardstock - Bashful Blue, Barely Banana, Whisper White
Paper - spring showers
Ink - Basic Black
Embellishments - white grosgrain ribbon

You will also need a paper cutter, lead pencil, snail adhesive, bone folder, scissors, tag punch and stamp cleaning pad and stampin' mist

Labels:

Just another Manic Monday...

I realise I am a couple of days behind on this - it has been a crazy busy week to say the least! Sorry for the delay, I hope to be far more organised next week. Here is the results of the first ever manic Monday - enjoy :)

Think S.I.P - Stamps, Ink and Paper. Choose a stamp set, an A4 pack of cardstock from your favourite colour family, one or more inkpads and some optional embellishments.
I have chosen:
Stamp set - Figures of Speech
Cardstock - Soft Subtles
Ink - black
Embellishments - metal edge tags (aluminium white) circles, white grosgrain ribbon and black and white gingham ribbon
You will also need a paper cutter, lead pencil, stampin' dimensionals, snail adhesive, bone folder, scissors and stamp cleaning pad and stampin' mist.

A group shot of the final product! Individual cards will be in the gallery soon.

This is only a small sample of what can be made with just one stamp set, one colour family and one inkpad, with a few embellishments. If you like what you see and would like to make these yourself, I can put together a pack of the items I used, just email me admin@cassandragrambau.com.au
